Audio/Visual/Taste Deterrents
Audio and visual bird deterrents can be an effective bird control technique when combined with other pest bird control systems and harassment techniques. For these bird deterrent products to be effective, pest birds need to perceive them as a threat in some way. That is why the location of where these bird deterrents are placed as well as regular movement of the bird scare products is important.
BIRD DISPERSAL PROGRAM
The solution to a successful bird dispersal program is TIMING, PERSISTENCE, ORGANIZATION and DIVERSITY. Timing is critical as birds are more apt to leave a briefly occupied site rather than an established roost. Appoint one person to organize and implement a harassment campaign commencing one hour before sunset and/or dawn using a diverse product mix. Effecting a dramatic change to the roosting area will often persuade birds to disperse. The obvious tactics include elimination of a food source, shelter and water. Remove nesting materials, thin/trim trees. A wide array of bird scare products is available. However, no single bird deterrent stands alone; a combination of bird deterrents must be used with repeated reinforcement as necessary.
